The situation

In the terminals, waste has to be collected and sorted where passengers are on the move. The airport cited the shortage of cleaning staff as the reason for the trial. Reliability and appearance count as much as function, and the IT requirements are strict.

What we built

From December 2025 a pilot with five waste robots, four in the security area and one at check-in, with separate compartments for PET and general waste and a screen that connects to the airport’s customer service. We then won the public tender: 18 robots, 15 for waste collection and 3 service robots, delivered in black so that the airport can design them itself. We fit and label the bins in Altstätten. The robots log in through the airport’s system, and when a fill-level sensor reports a full bin, one task is created for the robot and one for the staff.

Contract signed on August 19, 2026. Mapping starts in October, and commissioning is planned by the end of November 2026.

Why it matters

An airport runs a public tender and chooses us after a pilot in live operation.

In the customer’s words

«Wir haben einen zunehmenden Fachkräftemangel in der Reinigung mit häufig sehr fordernden Arbeitstagen.»

Translation: “We have a growing shortage of skilled cleaning staff, with often very demanding working days.”
